The hot arid desert climate is inhospitable to most, so it's no wonder that this historic location went undiscovered for thousands of years. Located on the West Bank of the Nile River, this historic monument is the lesser known counterpart of one of Southern Egypt's most famous sites. Surrounded by many additional historic landmarks, including the Luxor Temple, this valley contains what is often referred to as the "Sistine Chapel of Ancient Egypt”. Its many artifacts have traveled all over the world, and some have even ended up in the Louvre in Paris and the National Geographic Museum in Washington DC.
